- SynopsisIn Tudor England, King Henry VIII wishes to divorce his wife (Catherine of Aragon, who has not born him an heir) in order to marry Anne Boleyn. This would mean splitting from the Church in Rome and Henry becoming Supreme Head of the Church in England. Henry's beloved statesman Sir Thomas More angers the king by refusing to accept that he has the right to do this. When the problem escalates, More hopes that by keeping silent about his reasons for not supporting the king's cause, he will be allowed to lie low, but his silence becomes the talk of all Europe, and the king's enforcer, Thomas Cromwell, determines to remove More from public life and show that loyalty to papal authority brings the severest consequences.
