- SynopsisA five-part unit of programmes, each of which is built around an animal story from a different country and culture. Different styles of animation, from poster design of the 1930s to mainstream animated cartoons and contemporary book illustration, together with live-action footage, are woven together to tell the story, inform the viewer about where the story comes from, and show the featured animal in its real habitat. The programme titles and stories are: `The Wren: the king of the birds' a story from Ireland; `Biswas the bull' a story from India; `Anancy the spider' a Caribbean story; `The Cat' an international story set in ancient Egypt; `The Laidly worm' an old English story.
