- SynopsisOn the Western Front, just before the build-up to the Somme offensive of 1 July 1916, a platoon of British troops hold a section of the front line. As the deadline for the dawn attack approaches, 17 year-old soldier Billy Macfarlane and the rest of his squad are alternately bored and terrified. While waiting to be thrown into battle, a series of events begins to undermine and fracture the solidarity of the group, and the young soldiers have to confront the prospect of their lives coming to an imminent and sudden end.
