- SynopsisA 10-part unit from the BBC schools literacy series. An adventure story set in the Second World War, which provides a resource for helping pupils develop their reading and language skills. The story concerns a group of young evacuees who are sent into the countryside and become embroiled in an adventure involving spooky houses, dastardly villains, mysterious strangers, mistaken identities, narrow escapes and last-minute rescues. The teaching sections of the programmes are set in a local history museum and carry on the period theme, introducing the ubiquitous Chad, a wartime cartoon character. The episode titles are: Sent away; Grainger danger; Spies all around; Trouble for Mary; The Poster comes to life; Bombs in the country; Surprise; The Pilot; The Secret quarry; Captured. (Synopsis)
