- SynopsisACTUALITY. Single shot of the German battleship `Odin' at Kiel. Face-on view of battleship coming towards camera position, black smoke pouring out. Guns fire from both sides with white smoke; the ship makes a turn to the right with the guns continuing to fire (49ft/35mm). Note: Originally filmed in 68mm. One of a number of films taken of the German fleet at Kiel by Biograph in 1900. The Odin was a coastal defence battleship, of the 'Odin' class. It was constructed 1893-6 at the Imperial Dockyard, Danzig, being launched on 3 November 1894. It was commissioned into the fleet 22 September 1896. It lasted through the war, and was taken out of commission (stricken) in 1919. It was reconstructed as a freighter in 1922, and finally broken up in 1935. It was 79 metres long, 15 metres broad, with maximum displacement of 3574 tonnes. It had a top speed of 14.4 knots, and 4650ihp.
