- SynopsisHorror drama. Charles Frankenstein creates Eva, a beautiful female companion for his male creature, but when Eva reacts negatively this plan, the male creature leaves the castle in a rage of rejection. He teams up with friendly dwarf Rinaldo, and they look after each other. Rinaldo teaches the creature about manners, introduces him to beer and gives him a name (Viktor, meaning 'he will win'). Rinaldo assures Viktor he, Viktor, has a good heart, and he encourages him to follow his dreams. Rinaldo dreams of visiting Venice, and Viktor dreams of winning Eva's heart by buying her lovely jewels. Viktor and Rinaldo walk to Budapest to join the circus, where they are a success (with a trapeze act) and they make some money, though they often face hostility from prejudiced people such as the aggressive circus owner. Back at the castle, Frankenstein is evasive when Eva asks him lots of questions about her origins. He teaches her about life, literature and elegant behaviour, and she does well when presented in society, apart from screeching at a cat that scares her. When the Budapest circus hostility comes to a head, Viktor heads back to win Eva's heart. They meet by chance in the woods, and he is heartened to see that she does not remember their initial encounter, and she seems to like him. By now, Frankenstein is insanely jealous of any man who takes an interest in the spirited Eva. She assures him that, for all his power over her, he will never own her, and he spitefully tries to wound her by revealing that he sewed her together from corpses. Frankenstein tries to ward Viktor off with a flaming torch, and a fight to the death breaks out. (Synopsis)
